A Boys Song. James Hogg with illustrations by Nicholas Parry. Private Press – Tern Press. Ettrick Shepherd 1770-1835,

Edition of 100 of which this is number 63.  Set in Garamond with watercolour illustrations printed at the Tern Press, Market Drayton, 1994.

Binding Tudor Style. Harmatan leather goatskin of colours rust, apple green and yellow onlay leaves with a figure of a boy daydreaming.  Light blue coloured shirt and cap with brown trousers and jacket with black shoes.  Fair hair and eyes set in gold.

This, I think, captured the slim book perfectly, a sunny binding, an uplifting book, a Boys Song.

After binding the Somme and the Wilfred Owen books I needed much lighter relief.  It works well.  It is housed in a protective up and over box, which I have covered in matching rust and apple green book cloth. I lined the inside with bright rusty suede.  One of the early books to be bound in my bindery in Ruthin.  This binding cheered me up, what more could you ask?
