Nine Poems with prints by Nicolas Parry Private press. Printed by Nicolas and Mary Parry at the Tern Press, Market Drayton, March 1993. Fine design binding by Paul C Delrue May and June 2008.
Binding in Harmatan goatskin, muddied brown. Tudor style onlays of matching brown, blind decoration, small onlays of red blood. I have let the design speak for itself, but I have been influenced by the moving prints of Nicholas Parry. The Nine poems are Arms and the Boys Inspection, Sonnet, The Chances, The Last laugh, Asleep, Futility, Anthem for Doomed Youth and finally, The Next War. My copy is 94/95. Signed by Nicolas and Mary Parry It is printed on T.H. Saunders paper with Nicholas Parry’s etchings printed in relief.
This thin volume has been sewn on four tapes made of Irish linen with coloured endpapers matching the frontis; hinged with mustard yellow guards, with red tipped head and tail bands. The book is housed in an up and over protective box, covered in traditional wheat coloured buckram and lined inside with “tone” marked brown suede. The front is titled in gold hand letters Rutland 22 point and on the box spine I have added an angled cross in black.
I have bound many volumes of Wilfred Owen, this being my latest and I think, most moving..
War’s a joke for Me and You,
While we know such dreams are true.
Sigfried Sassoon.
Bound at Crispin, Ruthin, North Wales at my comfortable sunny Bindery.
