John Clare born 1793 wrote these verses for his children – Tales and other Trifles in Verse for the Amusement of Young Minds. Chiefly written for and related to the authors own children when under ten years old.

Binding. Bound in full “warm grey” Harmatan goatskin, sewn on four tapes with nice light grey endpapers.  The book is attractive with John Clare’s verses and Nicholas parry’s etchings capturing the gentle feel of the book perfectly – a warm and glowing binding.  Light grey onlays on both boards with blind decoration holding the design together.  My design is pictorial figurative and sunny.  I loved binding it.  The title is in gold along the thin spine.  It is housed in a protective box, which I covered in light grey waterproof buckram and lettered in black handle letters, point 18 York, along the spine of the box and the front.  The box has been lined in matching suede, altogether a light and airy binding, which I enjoyed for many hours in my Ruthin Bindery putting it together, thinking of my own childhood when happy at play - happy are all those too short days.
