A fine design binding by Paul C Delrue
This book was selected as the set book for the Designer Bookbinders International Competition 2008.
Binding: I tried to avoid stereotypical images of the title, instead considering a broader context for water. Bound in dark blue goatskin with onlaid lacunose panels in tan and paler blues and with blind tooled lines. The front panel depicts a yound boy at play by the sea, the back panel showing a boy's face shedding tears.  Similar panels feature on the leather doubloures. The title is onlaid leather letters on the spine.
The box is in matching bookcloth with suede lining and a paper onlaid image of a crying face, along with blind tooling. All housed in a protective matching slipcase.
